Better late than never!

As I browse some of my favorite blogs, I see many of you out there are also suffering with seasonal allergies. This week has been horrible for me, made worse because I was so busy.

I want to thank you all for the well wishes for my Dad...we did get some good news on Thursday that he does not have any signs of glaucoma which would compound the problems he is already having. I took him back to the Retina Dr. today who is pleased with the progress he is making so far. We go back in a month.

Finally had a chance to list a french beaded marigold basket that I finished earlier in the week. I love the bright oranges & yellows--a very cheery arrangement!

Hope you all have a nice, creative weekend. Stop by the Saturday night specials thread tomorrow night and visit some of the shops taking part. I'll post a link to the thread tomorrow on my blog.

Spring has Sprung...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. We really had fun with our daughter and her roommate--my jaws hurt from laughing so much!

With the budding of trees, my allergies have really kicked in. I just about made it to the college & back yesterday and I have a fairly busy week. Our bathtub & surround walls have come in at the home improvement store & we are picking them up today. Mr. Moose & I are going to do the installation ourselves. Thursday & Friday I'm taking my Dad for 2 more eye appointments.

I'll try to stop by your blogs and maybe post later in the week to show you what I have been working on!

Happy Easter Eggs! (Re-post)

I am re-posting this from last year because I thought you might enjoy seeing the Ukranian Eggs I made.  Tomorrow, we are off to pick up our daughter & her roommate for the weekend which I am sure will be filled with much laughter, fun, and eating! I hope yours is too! (I tried to streamline the post by removing the previous comments--didn't know only the comments would be removed and the commenters names would still be there--my bad!)

I thought I would share today some Ukranian Easter Eggs, or Pysanky Eggs, that I made many years ago. Pysanky is a method of writing on an egg with beeswax and dying it in multiple colors to make intricate patterns. This special tool is called a Kistka:
Beeswax is added to the tiny cup & melted over a small (candle) flame until it flow freely out of the tiny tip. The idea is to work from light to dark so any area that you want to remain white on your egg are outlined first with wax. Then the egg is dipped into the next lightest color that you want to use, yellow for example. Then any areas that you want to remain yellow are covered with wax, and the egg is then dipped into the next darkest color. You continue on in this manner until your pattern is complete and you have dipped your egg into the last, darkest color.
The next step is to hold the egg over a candle flame to carefully melt the beeswax. Kind of a melt, wipe, melt some more mantra! Soon you will begin to see the beautiful colors and pattern emerge and voila!--you have a Pysanky egg.
Traditionally, the eggs were left intact and eventually the inside would "dry up". Well, after ruining several as the liquid inside started leaking out, I decided to carefully "blow them out". I found some very tiny, decorative bead caps which I placed over the two holes when the eggs were completely dry and it gave them a finished look. As you can see, I display them (year round) on a variety of napkin rings.
This is meant as an introduction, not really a tutorial. If you decide to try some of these yourself, there are loads of resources in your public library (Yes, I still use mine!) or the internet.
Wishing all my friends a Happy Easter, Happy Passover, and Happy Egg dying!

Have a great weekend everyone!

And the Winner is...

I wish I had a butterfly to give each of you, my most loyal blog followers. I have enjoyed becoming friends with each of you and look forward to our visits together.
I put numbered pieces of paper in my trusty gourd bowl--which incidentally is (really) going to be finished one day, mixed them up really well, and had Mr. Moose pick one.  The lucky winner is #4 which if you count down the comments is...
Theresa of Faerie Moon Creations!  If you are not already familiar with the work of this wonder artist, stop by her blog--you will not be disappointed!  Theresa creates jewelry & mixed media art pieces inspired by faeries and nature. Her posts are always filled with beautiful photos (I am always inspired here, too!) as well as deep & touching words.

Thank you all for entering...Thank you again, Deb, for the inspiration...and
Congratulations to Theresa!

My Bunny? Bear? Art Doll

Happy Friday Everyone! This sweet little bear art doll is trying his best to be a bunny! Although I did not make the jointed bear...I had a lot of fun making his ear head band and smock complete with beaded polymer clay eggs! Glad I got him finished before Easter, LOL, although I think he has appeal any time of year!

I think Spring has finally sprung here! I am starting to rake the front yard, and with any luck I will get it finished today.  I may even get some flower seeds in this weekend. Mr. Moose is working on putting a second sump pump in the basement which we hope will help the next time we get torrential rain. Fortunately, it doesn't happen often, but we will be ready next time!

So what are your plans for the weekend? Whatever you are doing, stay safe, and I hope it is a happy one!  Oh, don't forget to enter my giveaway one post down and stop by and see the lovely photos by Ladybug from Texas that inspired this butterfly!

Inspiration From Blogging

I always try to keep my eyes open for inspiration and new ideas.  This butterfly was inspired by a gorgeous photo of an Eastern Swallowtail Butterfly taken by Deb and posted on her blog, Ladybug from Texas. I brightened up the yellow a bit so it would show up better in a potted plant.
I am going to offer this beauty as a giveaway. If you would like a chance to win, just leave a comment. I'll pick the winner on Monday April 18.

Stacy's Crow Suncatcher!

I know that many of you know my friend, Stacy from MagicLoveCrow; but if you don't, head over to her shop and check out her delightful crow art! She creates ACEOs, larger paintings and even has a stuffed baby crow in the shop. When she asked me to design & create a crow sun catcher for her, I was thrilled to do so. The black was a bit of a challenge, but mixed with the blue iris beads, black floral & black matt beads, I think it worked!  Happily, he is now on his way to Canada!

Purple Goodness!

Well, this week sure got away from me! I did finish a custom order for my good friend, Stacy, from MagicLoveCrow, but I can't show you because she reads my blog & she hasn't seen it yet!

Wednesday was my Dad's 85th birthday so my husband & I went to spend the day with him and take him out to lunch. He is still struggling with his eye issues and has two more treatments to go which are a month apart, so we are looking at at least June before he can potentially be fit for glasses that may help him. We did have a nice day & a great lunch at Red Lobster!

Other than the above, I have not accomplished much this week--and wisely did not set any goals! I got confused with dates and have an appointment myself tomorrow that I thought was next week and other than that we are going crazy trying to replace the tub in our "master" bath. I use that phrase loosely since the bath is tiny by today's standards.

Thanks for listening to me ramble! The piece shown about was something I made to wear to last Sunday's baby shower. The frog is Fluorite and the rest is Amethyst. It is a bit heavy, but it is purple & I love it. I originally was going to sell it, but for now, I am keeping it for myself!

Have a happy, creative weekend everyone! I will be having a Saturday Night Sale beginning 5pm on Saturday so if you've had your eye on anything in my shop, this may be a good time to stop by and it will probably be the last one this month!

My First Cuff

I found another way to incorporate my passion of making french beaded flowers into my artwork! Here is my very first cuff! Three french beaded flowers in pastel pink & lavender with yellow centers are securely attached to a background of Nicole's (famous) BeadBacking. I wanted to achieve the effect of flowers nestled in grass & I think the BeadBacking worked quite well for it. I did a simple one bead edging so as not to take away from the flowers & backed it with some matching green ultrasuede material.

It was a gorgeous weekend & I am finally beginning to see some flowers pushing their way out of the ground! Could it be that Spring has finally arrived? I hope so along with so many others of you, I am sure!

Have a Happy Weekend!

Since I don't have anything new to show you today, I thought I would leave you with this beautiful piece entitled, "Spring" by Vivaldi! I think I see lots of floral inspiration in there, LOL! It's a bit long, but enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend! Check my shop announcement Saturday night to see if I am participating in this week's sale--haven't decided yet! Stop back on Monday to see my very first beaded cuff bracelet. I guarantee that it will not be what you are expecting...
