Are your Tulips blooming yet?

Nothing says Spring like a colorful bunch of tulips! These french beaded tulips are planted in the prettiest lavender bucket! There are five tulips: 2 red rainbow, 2 yellow rainbow & 1 orange rainbow. Each has 6 petals, a black & green stamen and two broad leaves. The arrangement measures 8" tall and the tulips are permanently planted in the pail with green Spanish moss. Place these in a sunny location & watch them shine! You can find them in my Etsy shop right now!

Here is my progress on my goals so far--rather a slow start, but the above took longer than anticipated. Of course, I am not going to "rush" to finish, or beat myself up if I don't meet this week's goals. They just give me something to work towards! The weather report already has a "storm warning posted for Thursday into Friday--2 to 6 inches of snow! I hope the prediction goes like the last one when we got very little!

So, how is your week going?

Introducing...The HeArt of Words

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! I did domestic things like clean the house, laundry, etc, as well as got started on some projects for this week. Before I move on to that, I would like to show you my last OWOH gift that was a custom made word weave by Theresa of The HeArt of Words. First, I have to show you the cute way she decorated the envelope she mailed it in, shown above. Trust me, the front was just as cute!
Here is the word weave she made me according to my color and word specifications. It is a very special piece of art with lots of meaning. I chose our wedding song..."Can't Help Falling in Love" (by Elvis--big surprise, huh?!) She wrote out the song in beautiful script and wove it with my favorite color...purple, as you probably know. It will be cherished & enjoyed as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this August. Thank you so much, Tess, for a beautiful memento!
Along with the word weave, came a pretty heart note card written in her own hand, and an ATC that she made just for me as a gift for waiting so long for the word weave. It was worth every day's wait! I love it!

So what's on my crafting table this week? Glad you asked! I am hoping to match my goals from last week with perhaps 2 ACEOs, 2 french beaded pieces, and 2 other types of beading--jewelry, sun catchers...yet to be determined!

It is the second jewelry project that I alluded to in my last post & didn't have time to photograph. I used Nicole's BeadBacking which I love and use for all my bead projects. Did I do it?

Yes! I am happy to report that I did meet my goals for the week! It was close, and if you remember I was going to make 2 french beaded flower items, 1 ACEO and 2 pieces of jewelry. They are all complete, almost all uploaded to my Etsy shop with just the second piece of jewelry to photograph and list. I liked making a goal, it gave me motivation to create. Without further ado...Here they are (minus the one that still need to be photographed!)
Light sapphire blue french beaded medium roses in short milk glass vase.

Watercolor & Acrylic paint on 140 lb. watercolor paper.

Super color lined Lavender French Beaded Rose Brooch

7 3/4" long bracelet with funky mirrored squares, metal spacer beads & Czech AB firepolish beads.

Just as soon as I can I will photograph the last piece of jewelry & get the rest uploaded to my shop.

This Saturday night from 5 pm to 6 am Sunday morning, I will again be participating with the Saturday Night Specials (SNS) on Etsy. I will come back on Saturday and post the sale link to all the participating shops. If you have an Etsy shop, you may want to consider joining this team. They host this sale every week & it is absolutely voluntary if and when you want to participate. It may take awhile to regain our loyal customers, but in the past this was very well attended. Remember, there is strength in numbers!

Have a wonderful, creative weekend!

Happy Spring!

Nope, didn't post the wrong photo. This is what we woke up to this morning, and it is still going strong! It was only supposed to be a "dusting"!
At least we got our daughter back to College yesterday in gorgeous sunshine & pretty mild temperatures.

My goals this week are to complete 1-2 french beaded flower pieces,  1 or 2 pieces of jewelry, and one new ACEO.  Big goals for me since I won't be free to work tomorrow, but I am going to do my best. Hoping also to have a sale Saturday night--more details on that later!

Have a fun, creative day!

Happy Friday on one hand....

TGIF on the other! It's been a fun week with our daughter. She & I spent some quality "Mom & Daughter" time shopping, cooking, and just enjoying each other's company. Tonight we are going to see the High School's Spring musical--she is going with a friend and we'll catch up at the end of the night for me to drive them home. The musical is Beauty & The Beast-should be fun. Saturday, we are going to a surprise birthday party for a close friend. Sunday we'll be taking her back to College after Church.

As for the TGIF Dad has some pretty serious eye issues that needed to be addressed. I took him to the Ophthalmologist and the next day to a Retina Specialist--hopefully, he can save the vision he has left.

With all this craziness, I did manage to finish this tin planter of red french beaded roses. I think (no brag intended--well, maybe just a little bit,LOL) it is one of the nicest things I've ever made!

Hope you all have a happy, creative weekend!

I managed to finish my Oz ACEO. It is another in my series of Moose on Parade--this one, "Tin Moose".

As a kid, we watched The Wizard of Oz every year on TV. The Tin Man, played by Jack Haley,  was always my favorite character. He had spunk and spirit and for me, lots of heart. I was always in awe of the idea of a man made out of tin...much as I was fascinated by the robots in the early Sci-fi shows--but that's another story! I loved the Tin Man so much that one year I actually created a costume with gray face paint, oak tag, and lots of foil.

My art card shows Tin Moose on the yellow brick road on his way to Oz. I used a slightly dark and obviously highly reflective paper for his funnel hat--in person, it is solid dark gray. You will notice that his little door is open so you can see his heart; because after all, he always had a heart. So, what did the Wizard of Oz say to the Tin Man? Loosely paraphrased...

"that a heart will never be practical until it is made unbreakable. A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others." Words never more true than that!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Enjoy your corned beef & cabbage if that is your tradition.

We had a nice trip to Massachusetts on Friday to pick up our daughter. The weather was good and the traffic not too heavy.  Saturday, the three of us spent the day cutting up the still wet rugs in the basement and putting them out for the garbage.

By now everyone has heard about the devastating earthquake in Japan...Makes the water we got very insignificant. My heart and prayers go out to all who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.

I wear many hats, and the priority this week is my Mom hat!  I will be spending most of my time with my girl and maybe a little crafting if I get a chance. I hope to return later in the week to show my new ACEO--a tribute piece to the Wizard of Oz movie. Above is my second aqua butterfly sun catcher... I think the next one will be red! Any other color suggestions? I've also done flamingo, puffin, seahorse, & white buffalo--what else would you like to see as a sun catcher?

Have a happy creative week.

Thursdays, too

We are in for another round of heavy rains later today, tonight and into tomorrow morning. The totals from the last storm were just about 4" and they are predicting near that again. We tried to buy a second sump pump, but all the local home centers are out of them--not that we could have put it in before today anyway. We did get a second utility pump that will help if the garage floods. Tomorrow, we (or I) pick up our daughter at College for Spring Break. If the water is coming in again, my husband will stay home to try to keep ahead of it. I can always go Saturday again, but as you may guess, I don't want to wait.

Needless to say I have not been getting any crafting done. I did manage to finish crocheting a baby blanket for a shower (bad pun...why are they called showers anyway?) I am going to in April.

I will wish you all a happy creative weekend. If you are experiencing the wrath of Mother Nature, too, then please stay safe!

For Royal Wedding Wednesday-my engagement ring

I decided to join the fun over at Decor to Adore and add "my jewels" to the linky party. This is my engagement ring.  A one caret diamond flanked by two smaller diamonds surrounded by five channel diamonds on each side of the band.
Thanks for creating this fun, Laura!

Rainy Days & Mondays

Rain & I are no longer friends. I used to like rain...especially when it melted most of the snow that was still on the ground. I liked April Showers (even in March) that bring flowers. I even liked the fresh smell of renewal after a rain shower.

What I don't like is such torrential rains that our basement started flooding. So my husband & I dragged out the shop vac & shampoo machine yet again to try to stay ahead of the water. He used one, I used the other...we were working good...then...the circuit breaker tripped us into darkness...twice!

Oh, yes, we do have a sump pump in the boiler room which does a wonderful job...IF you remember to push the reset switch on the ground fault outlet if the power goes out. Within, 5 minutes, the water was ankle deep-won't be wearing those sneakers again. We thought it burnt out and then suddenly remembered the switch. It took nearly 15 minutes to drain out most of the water, but by then the damage was done & there were 3 rooms of wet rugs! We worked till 11 pm, gave up & went to bed.

Today, we've spent nearly the whole day with the shampoo machine sucking up most of the water, running fans and a dehumidifier. So, I won't be liking rain for quite awhile.

That was my Monday--How's yours going?

Beautiful Visitors!

The lake is still totally frozen, but because there are drainage pipes in this location and the water is constantly moving, there is a small patch that stays thawed. A few days ago, I saw two of the swans that normally call our lake home.
Look at the reflection of the swan on the right. It looks like he is looking at himself!
Swans are so regal and such strong birds!
These seagulls were having fun splashing around and taking a bath.  I think they are happy they found a thawed patch, too!
Here is a custom order for a butterfly suncatcher that I just finished up! I design & hand form the frames without the help of jigs, etc. I'm really proud of how this turned out! Hope the customer likes it!

I was given the Awesome Blog Award by Kottage Kreations. I'm supposed to tell you 7 things about myself that you might not know.
1)Although the house I am currently living in is the 6th place I've lived, I've only lived in 2 cities my whole life.
2)I have one older sister.
3)My middle name is Jean.
4)I love to travel.
5)My favorite color is purple.
6)I am afraid of basements after dark--can't go there.
7)I love animals.
I'm supposed to pass this on to 15 bloggers, but as is my custom, I will just invite anyone who would like to play along to do so!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I'm counting the days...One week from today my girl comes home again for a week!

More Gifts to Share

I was indeed very lucky to have won two more gifts during OWOH. This first was won via the ADO or Art Dolls Only blog. It is an art doll that was created by Carla Trujillo. Her blog is just filled with delightful art dolls and mixed media work. This is an amazing piece made with a domino, metal, polymer clay, and wire. I will hang it in my work space to keep me company when I am creating!

This gift came all the way from the Netherlands! Jolette Flapper created the sweetest, smallest origami items I have ever seen! What patience she has to make these tiny folds. They came in a beautifully decorated box with a sprinkling of other hearts, too. She also sent me a cute postcard with love from her hometown! Everything was themed to OWOH, and I thank you, Jolette, so much! Jolette has a blog and creates journals, mixed media pieces & paintings.

The sun is finally shining here! Spring cannot be far off, I hope.  Have a wonderful, creative day!
