Ta Da!

I was mesmerized by the Tuscarora beading that Lynn at Beading Heart Art has been showing on her blog. The Tuscarora are part of the Iroquois Nation and live in the Niagara Falls, New York area. I've probably mentioned before that I have always felt some connection to Native Americans despite the fact that I am 100% of Italian descent. Every Tuesday on her Tuscarora Tuesday posts Lynn has been showing some absolutely gorgeous examples of this type of beading. When she decided to take a class and graciously shared a tutorial on this technique, I jumped in and gave it a try.

Now, my butterfly is by no means perfect, but I am quite proud of myself! Go take a look at this shot of Lynn's piece, and you will have a better idea of how it should look! If you love the beading as much as I did--go back and look at all her Tuscarora Tuesday posts-you won't be disappointed!

Customization, anyone?

I finally had a chance to photograph the beautiful mug I won in a giveaway from PictureIt Creations. I'm sorry the photo is not the greatest, but it is a gift for my husband, and I did not want him to see it. Rest assured, Taryn does beautiful work and will personalize anything you want! I chose a Moose motif (big surprise, huh?)and had Happy Birthday printed above it and my nickname for my husband below it. Taryn searched for the image and sent me a proof before any work was done. From the moment she contacted me about my win to the moment I opened the box and saw the finished product, I was thrilled! She was friendly and very professional. Definitely keep her in mind for any special customization work you need--Check out her website for a ton of ideas, too!

The giveaway was part of Theresa's "Terrifically Talented Thursday" post. Each Thursday she introduces her readers to some talented artists. This is my absolute favorite way to encounter new artists, and Theresa does a wonderful job with the features!

Heaven in Vienna

Last night my husband & I had the tremendous pleasure of seeing Andre Rieu in concert--no, not in Vienna. We missed the free concert he gave in Vienna, since we were in the Vienna Opera House for a concert/performance. But I digress...

If you are a fan of Classical Music, you already know him. If not, this may just make you a fan. This is a concert of medleys, many of which we heard last night. The 3 tenors were there with their amazing voices as were a number of other talented singers, but the highlight, of course, is what Rieu does with his Stradivarius! I could listen to him play a Strauss Waltz all night! Blue Danube had people dancing in the aisles!

Hope you enjoy this little snippet.

Tomorrow is Graduation Day so I will hope to be back on Friday. If not, I wish you all a great weekend.

Venice, how I miss you!

Today, I thought I would share with you a wonderful giveaway that I happened to win from Diane Clancy's Art Blog. Diane creates the most amazing art in bold, vibrant colors. She has an Etsy shop where she sells art cards, greeting cards, and art prints in many different sizes. The giveaway was for a 16 x 20 rolled canvas from UPrinting. After much debate and family voting, we selected a photo taken by our daughter while we were in Venice a few years ago. It is a marvelous view of the Grand Canal.

I cannot tell you how beautiful this came out--much better than I had expected. UPrinting is very easy to work with and they guide you every step of the way. There are proofs before your photo/artwork is printed and suggestions on how to correct any problems. Ignore the white borders above and below the photo--this is because of the ratio the photo was originally taken at. We chose to go ahead because we really liked the photo, and I know I can work around the borders. The canvas is sharp and the colors are vivid--as good or better than the original photo. I cannot be more pleased with the result. Thank you so much, Diane, for having this giveaway!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Finally Finished-More or Less!

I know you are all dying to know if I met my goal to put the house back together over the weekend. Well, just about! The boxes are all unpacked, the pictures are all back on the walls & the wall unit is filled back up! Here is the master bedroom:

This is my little corner, very bright with 3 windows. I have a new laptop stand and that's an antique leather top claw foot table that was my mother's. Oh, yes, the carpet is the color of red wine!
Here is our daughter's bedroom:

The color is called "Folklore"--It is a medium tone grayish blue. I painted her walls blue.
Here is the Living Room:

The upstairs hall & stairs are the same color which is a golden brown. Not too dark, not too light. It looks a bit similar to what we had but is actually quite a bit darker.
What's left? To put all the closet doors back on...which I want to stain first so they may get done a little later in the summer. Also, they may need to be cut as the living room closet doors do. But I am pleased that it is beginning to look like a house again!

Clutter, Clutter Everywhere!

Here is another prime reason why I am not getting anything creative done! My workspace has stuff piled up everywhere! This weekend is it--I am going on a mission to finish unpacking all the rest of the boxes and bags and putting everything back in order. I Will have photos of the new rugs to show you next week, and next week I will concentrate on cleaning up my space. There, I said it! I feel much better now.
Last night was Senior Ball. Our High School has a Junior Prom and a Senior Ball. I spent most of the day doing "girly" things with my daughter. I gave her a french manicure and then we headed over to the mall for a last minute hair clip purchase and to have her hair styled. We had a blast! Her group of friends numbered 24 or 25 and this year they got a "party bus" as opposed to a Limo. The parents all had a great time at her friend's house where they were meeting taking photos & watching all the kids..who are actually no longer "kids". Today, most of them are off to the beach. Here is a photo of my daughter & her date.

If you don't hear from me Monday (but you will)I got burried under some stuff--come get me out!Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Is it Tuesday already???? The carpet installation took all day Friday, and since then I have been trying to make the house look like a house again! One entire day was spent hooking up the TV, DVD player & Satellite box. We have a surround sound system of five speakers plus six other speakers in the room. The speakers took almost another day to rewire.

Yesterday, I had a "day off" & took my Dad to have a medical test for something incidental they found when he was in the hospital with pneumonia. Thankfully, all is well & nothing else needs to be done.

Today, I've emptied four large trash bags and one box; vacuumed the entire house including the basement so we can begin to put things back there (remember we took the old carpet & laid it in the rooms down in the basement); did 3 loads of laundry, ordered a boutonniere for my daughter's date for the Senior Ball on Thursday, picked up the same daughter at school and am now....

Ready to take a break! I am starting to feel the crabbiness cf not crafting coming on, but I really can't sit and bead when I know all this other stuff needs to be done. Are you like that, too, or are you able to put aside the housework and be creative?

Short, but newsy post

A little good news, and some other news:
First the good: The carpets are coming Friday Yay!!!
The other news: Remember when I said I was D-O-N-E with painting? Well, I decided to give the upstairs Bath a fresh coat of mildew resistant paint. Everything else looks so clean & fresh, well, I felt bad for the poor little room. Yes, I'm just a softie at heart! So that's what I am doing tomorrow. Here is what I did for the past few evenings:

They are a custom order--the customer selected the colors & color combinations. I think she chose well, don't you?

Hope you are having a great day.
