Ah, Venezia!

It's been a long time since I posted a Friday painting, since my oil painting classes are on hiatus at the moment.

I did finally get around to finishing up my picture of Venice that was based on a photograph my husband took when we visited there two summers ago. This view is one of the most recognized scenes of Venice. All I had to do was add the gondolas to finish it. It took me so long because up to that point, I was really happy with how it was coming out, and I didn't want to ruin it! I finally go the courage to put brush to board and get it finished. I'm still pretty pleased.

Has that ever happened to you? You start something and drag your feet at finishing it because you are afraid of ruining it? I have a hard time with this...sometimes it even prevents me from starting a project. I don't like rough drafts so to speak; I like to get it right the first time!

My latest!

This is what I was so excited to show off...a french beaded anemone flower box! I am so pleased with the way it came out, especially since this flower is light enough so the box will stay open on its own.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the popularity of these boxes. I have sold a sunflower, an exotic passion flower, and recently a rose box. This one is in my shop now!

So what are you working on or have just completed that you are proud of?

I Survived....

...Day 2 of giving our 16-year-old daughter driving lessons! Actually, it is more to just get her used to what driving feels like--in a couple of weeks she will be taking Drivers Ed in an after school program run by a private auto driving school. Of course, since she doesn't have her learner's permit yet, she hasn't been out on the street. Oddly enough, she doesn't need a permit to drive on the road with a driving school, but can't drive on the road with a parent. Go figure!

It was nice to be out enjoying the late day sunshine, especially since we are supposed to get 4"-7" of snow tonight into tomorrow. I always feel a sense of "panic" when they make these predictions--as if I don't have enough food in the house or won't be able to get out for days. Fortunately, I soon come to my senses.

I've managed to list almost every day lately, & I think it has helped my shop. Here is my latest ACEO created for the creative challenge-Be inspired by a favorite children's book. Can you guess which one I chose?

I have another beaded flower project that is almost finished and I can't wait to show off, so stay tuned.

Sunday Wisdom

Detach Yourself from Your “Stuff”
You’re not what you have and you’re not what you do; you’re an infinite, divine being disguised as a successful person who has accumulated a certain amount of stuff. The stuff is not you. For that reason, you must avoid being attached to it in any way.

Etsy Shop News

Drumroll, please.....

I finally created a new banner for my Etsy shop using items I created! No big deal, you're probably saying, but you see, I am so computer challenged when it comes to things like this. For me it was a big deal!

It still needs some tweaking since it got a little stretched out, but still, it doesn't look too bad. The first photo shows the banner with words--everyone said the words got lost with the busy background so I currently have the banner in the second photo without the words up.

If you want to try this yourself, check out this blog. Rachel of Rachel's Aprons so generously posted a tutorial for which me and a hundred other Etsy sellers thank her!

Neat Craft Tutorials

Today's post is all about tutorials--I love them! People are so generous to post them, too. I must admit, I tend to collect more of them than I get time to make, but it is so much fun to create something for myself and not necessarily to sell.

Here is a blog with some free tutorials--check out the Corkboard Wallpocket--What a neat idea!

I have also been working on improving my photos. The above rose corsage is my latest & will soon be available in my shop.

We Have A New Addition!

Isn't it Pretty? I added the bright green silicone "skin" for protection, and, of course, we also got the WII console. I'm at that age where it's time to step up the exercise! I already do 20 minutes on an elliptical 5-6 days a week, and now I've added the Fit to my program.

If you don't know much about it, it's really a lot of fun--you don't even feel like you are exercising. I do 30 minutes without even realizing it! I spend some time doing the Yoga poses and a few of the strength exercises before moving on to the fun things--the aerobic & balance games!

So now we are trying to decide which games to purchase. The console came with the 5 basic sports games, plus we bought WII play with another 9 games. The only other game we have tried is Mario Kart which we liked & will probably get. So how about it? Any gamers out there? Any WII owners? What games do you recommend? What games did you not like?

Btw, anyone else trying to lose weight? Check out the great giveaway on The Nerdy Loser's blog!

Shamless Self Promotion Tuesday!

I have declared this day "Shameless Self Promotion Tuesday!" And with that in mind...

The Valentine's Day Roses are ready! I finally got ahead of the holidays this year and made some things well in advance. I made several sets of rose spray arrangements and three red corsages. By listing them early, I received a custom order for a lavender corsage, too!

You can see them in my etsy or ecrater shop. On Ecrater, on the bottom right side of the page, click "more" and you will see the category for the roses.

They are also currently featured on a Squidoo page I created all about French Beaded Flowers.

Have a great day!

Ice Storm, 2009

Although these photos don't do it justice, it really is rather pretty outside today, especially if you do not have to go out. We had snow last night that changed into freezing rain. Everything is coated with about 1/2" of ice. I am counting our blessings that we took down those trees last year, or I am sure we would be sorry now. We had 2 huge pine trees in front (which we loved for the shade) that were dropping large branches with the cold & snow. The last thing we wanted was to have them fall on our or our neighbor's house/property, so it was time for them to go.

Of course, this weather also means that school is closed today. After 12 days off over the Christmas/New Year holidays, it was nice to get back into my crafting routine; although I did spend most of yesterday taking down the Christmas decorations.
All that is left is the tree which my daughter will help me with today.

Thank you Mother Nature for this beautiful day!

Creative Inspiration

Since I missed putting up my Sunday Wisdom post this week, I decided I would offer some creative inspiration for a Monday. I don't, in general, make "New Years Resolutions", but I am aspiring to blog more regularly!

So what about creative inspiration--where does it come from? I believe it is all around us & I know I generally look right past it! Take a minute, right now, wherever you are to look around you. How many textures, colors, objects do you see that could inspire you in your work?

From where I am sitting I see the rich texture of the drapes right next to me and further the sky & tree that I can see out that window. To my left is an antique leather top table that I use as a desk--it has beautiful scrollwork encircling it.

Ok, I'm not going to continue describing my inspiration; but my point is, look around you. Be inspired by the shapes, colors and textures around you. Tell me what you see!
