Merry Christmas!

This has been a long week filled with both celebration and sadness. The sadness I will not address--you all have already heard enough of the heartbreaking stories that have happened in Newtown, CT, just 30 minutes from where I live.

Friday was also my husband's birthday. After picking up our daughter we went out to lunch and made a few planned stops on the way home to do some Christmas shopping. The weekend was filled with back to back parties--one Hanukkah party with close friends, and a family Christmas party.

The house smells like a bakery--after the cream puffs for Sunday--yes, made from scratch! and the four batches of cookies yesterday. Oh, lets not forget the birthday meal I made on Tuesday for my husband: homemade macaroni with homemade gravy, with cream puffs and home made lattes for dessert.

I've had little time for beading except at night, but I am attempting to get a jump on rose arrangements for Valentine's Day. I've finished what will be two arrangement so far, but have not put them together yet. I did make one winter-type of arrangement that I hope to list just after New Year's:
There's a little bit of everything in it: Ice Crystals, Money Plant, Bell Flowers, Sweet William and a branch of Lavender.

I probably won't be posting again until after New Years, so I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Elizabeth's Sun Catcher

Now that Elizabeth has received her surprise thank you gift, I thought I would show the rest of you what I made her:
Elizabeth collects rocking horses, and if you ever stop by her blog, you will no doubt be treated to a look at some of her collection. I photographed the sun catcher before I mailed it out, forgetting about the screens in the window. If you go to Elizabeth's post here you can fully appreciate the colors!

I will be off soon to pick up our daughter at college for the winter break so I will wish you all a happy creative weekend!

Judging a Book By Its Cover

The real joys in life are those that cannot be calculated by any known unit of measurement. --unknown

I wrapped up (pun intended!) my altered book this past weekend in between decorating the house. I decided to go with a fairly simple cover. I found the travel themed fabric on clearance in a craft store and used fusible web to iron it onto the book cover. Then, in keeping with my vow to refrain from buying any more supplies, I used these faux hanging typewriter keys that I won in a giveaway. My first choice of titles was "Footsteps", but since there were limited letters, I had to go with "My Travels".
The fabric has images of many places we have been, so I was happy with that. I threaded some purple ribbon through the key hangers, made little bows & hot glued them on. The cover doesn't have as much zing as I wanted it to, but for the first one, I am satisfied.

By now, you as well as the instructor, Elizabeth, know how much I enjoyed this course and how much I got out of it. I have to say once more a very heartfelt thank you to Elizabeth for her generosity and excellent tutorials! I might never have attempted this without her guidance and encouragement!

Another new scarf!

Thank you all for your nice comments regarding my craft show. My scarves sold well there, in fact, I have only one left which I have listed in my shop.
This one was crocheted in Simply Soft yarn by Caron. The color is Pagoda which is a teal green. It is approximately 59" long and 6" wide. It lives up to its name as it is very soft & drapes well!

Even though it is only Thursday, I will wish you a happy creative weekend as I hope to be busy decorating the house tomorrow!

Holiday on the Lake

If you woo the company of the angels in your waking hours, they will be sure to come to you in your sleep.--G.D. Prentice

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you all so much for the nice comments and wishes of many sales for my craft show. All those positive vibes floating around in the atmosphere certainly must have helped. The show was very well attended, and I am pleased with how much I sold. I cleared quite a few things out of my Etsy shop, so I will get busy creating new things to fill it up again! First up will be this french beaded monarch butterfly that I just finished yesterday. Hope to have it up later today.
This craft show is local to me, and I have been participating in it for 18 years! It kicks off an event called "Holiday on The Lake" and opens with craft shows, library readings, concerts, a parade of marchers and decorated cars, and ends with a blessing and tree lighting, all on the first Saturday of December. These events plus more are all within walking distance of each other. One hundred trees are planted along the lake in town (as opposed to the lake down the street from me that many of you have read about here before)and they stay light thru the New Year. There is also a giant Menorah that is light on the appropriate nights to celebrate Hanukkah.

Since I have been doing this show so long, I have made many friends of vendors, shoppers, and the women who run the show. It is an added bonus to selling to see so many friends and neighbors and to be carried away with the Christmas spirit!
