Rainy Days & Mondays

Rain & I are no longer friends. I used to like rain...especially when it melted most of the snow that was still on the ground. I liked April Showers (even in March) that bring flowers. I even liked the fresh smell of renewal after a rain shower.

What I don't like is such torrential rains that our basement started flooding. So my husband & I dragged out the shop vac & shampoo machine yet again to try to stay ahead of the water. He used one, I used the other...we were working good...then...the circuit breaker tripped us into darkness...twice!

Oh, yes, we do have a sump pump in the boiler room which does a wonderful job...IF you remember to push the reset switch on the ground fault outlet if the power goes out. Within, 5 minutes, the water was ankle deep-won't be wearing those sneakers again. We thought it burnt out and then suddenly remembered the switch. It took nearly 15 minutes to drain out most of the water, but by then the damage was done & there were 3 rooms of wet rugs! We worked till 11 pm, gave up & went to bed.

Today, we've spent nearly the whole day with the shampoo machine sucking up most of the water, running fans and a dehumidifier. So, I won't be liking rain for quite awhile.

That was my Monday--How's yours going?

LOL, Lori! Maybe "phy-dri" is a chant or something to make our basement dry up! Hope your weather brightens up soon, too!

I well understand why you do not like rain at this point. I am so sorry for all you are going through and all you are having to do to save your home from terrible damage. You two have to be so tired. I will remember you in my prayers. Glad you are safe and hope all turns out well for you. I sure hope the rain stops and stays away for a long while so it can dry out around there. Hugs

Would it be due in part to still having frozen ground?

We are still getting snow. :(

Can't say I enjoy the rain that much either, like it better than snow but who doesn't! Sorry you basement got flooded that is the pits and alot of hard work to keep ahead of it. I had my phone go really WONKY last week because all the massive rain and high winds we had here. It seems water got into the junction box and was shorting out the wires. Fun time had by one and all.

Now you need to go put you feet up and grab a cup of tea or glass of wine and relax. Hope all that rain stops for you.

Debbie, I am so sorry! I have been hearing alot of people this year, with water problems from the rain! I know here, we get rain, and then suddenly, we get snow? I think the ground isn't thawed yet, so the water is coming inside! Errrrrrr..!! We had some come in on saturday, but not as bad as you! They are calling for bad rain on wednesday, thursday and friday! We will see what happens!! Take Care!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments...
I do think the main problem is that the ground is still frozen and can only soak so much in. The other factor is that it just rained so hard for so long, it had nowhere else to go.

More rain for the end of the week here too, hopefully not as hard.

Thank goodness we didn't have rain like that!!
Is there rain today too?
I hope the rest of your week is dry and sunny!

So sorry about the flooding! That's just terrible! We had a little leak and had to keep a bucket nearby. Let's hope we don't get any more like that this week! Theresa
