My First

I didn't think I would finish in time, but I did and I am so very proud of myself! I created my very first bridal bouquet! I came across a challenge two weeks ago on the blog "Treasures Found: Inspiration is Everywhere" and while I did not need the time crunch pressure right at this particular time, I could not resist entering! You can read the whole post here.

I was inspired by a blog post on "Colour Lovers" called "What Hue Are You?" to use a color palette called, Juicy Watermelon for the colors in my bouquet.

There are 4 large roses, 3 medium roses and 8 lilies surrounded by loops of ivory tulle. I have never made a bouquet before and well, it almost makes me want to get married again, LOL! Without further ado, here it is:

I'm off to enter the challenge now...I already feel like a winner!
Have a great weekend!

One More Gallon to Go!

Somehow on Tuesday, I managed to finish the walls and trim in our room. Yesterday was 90 degrees here so I took the day off and beaded all day. I think my arms are more sore than if I had painted all day, LOL!

Yesterday, I bought my "last" gallon of paint, and today, I will paint my daughter's room. After that I am D-O-N-E with painting! It will probably be at least the end of next week (hopefully) before the rugs come in as they were special order. Oh well, I can live with bare floors and out of boxes for another little while.

In case I don't get to post tomorrow....Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Any special plans? I am planning to just relax by then!

The hallway came out great! It looks like the men who were going to help us paint can't come for 3 weeks due to prior commitments, so guess who is doing the rest of the painting? I am not waiting 3 weeks to get my new carpet--and I am not having it painted after the carpet is in.

Today, I am starting our bedroom which is about 13' by 24'. I probably won't get more than the ceiling done today, but with 7 windows & 2 large closets, the walls should be a breeze even if the trim is a pain in the neck! Over the weekend, our daughter convinced me to paint her room, too. Originally, I was not going to, but this does seem like a good time without having rugs down & more importantly having all the drawers out of the furniture so it is easily movable.

I am also working on a custom order for 3 tulips & 3 beaded cabs--in my "spare" time-LOL! So, I'll be painting for most of this week--what are you planning?

Friday is for Painting

As many of you know, I take an oil painting class on Fridays. Well, today was no exception as far as the painting was concerned--just not oil and not on canvas. Yes, today I painted our upstairs hallway.

In the first photo you can see the great scaffold that my husband constructed out of two ladders & a very sturdy plank. This view looks down into the living room-not sure if you can really appreciate how high up the ceiling is. I was fine until I had to walk the plank to the other end over the stairs. I was never afraid of heights, but I came this close to telling my husband I couldn't do it. Perhaps you are wondering why he wasn't doing the painting...well, the last time he was even near a can of paint he stepped in it--not the paint, the whole can of paint. Nuff said.

Then I figured out if I held on to the wall, I was semi-alright...

The rest of the time my wonderful husband when he wasn't sitting on the other end of the plank to keep it sturdy, held my hand so I could walk without feeling I was going to fall. If that ain't love...nothing is!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Slowing down a bit

Yes, I am slowing down...but only from the craft standpoint. I worked all weekend, just not at what I love! We had some help on Saturday to take up the carpets, cut them, and reinstall them in the rooms in our basement. Doesn't sound like too big a deal, but with moving the furniture upstairs and downstairs, it sure was. Yesterday, my husband used our cleaning machine to shampoo the rugs and they really came out great...maybe we should have left them-NOT! I went around taking all the pictures off the walls that are going to be painted and plastered some "extra holes" that we don't need anymore. I also finished repairing this spot. After taking up the rug in the living room, I needed to touch up the paint--Done! Two loads of laundry and planting of some final seeds outside & a little raking rounded out the day. No wonder I didn't get up until 8 am this morning!

Tomorrow they come to measure & will get back to us in a few days to make the installation appointment. Hopefully, the painting will be finished so we can make the date right away.

Well, that's my world right now...what's going on in yours?

Friday! Already?!!!

Where did the week go? Oh, I know where it went alright. It went to packing and moving into the garage three rooms of furniture. The wall unit of collected memories from life and vacations took me 2 days alone to wrap carefully & pack up. No, we are not moving...we decided to get new carpeting in the whole house with the exception of my husband's office. After almost 19 years, believe me, we have collected a lot of STUFF! I love it all and can't part with any of it. We are also having 2 rooms painted first. Hey, when the man gets an idea...I don't stand in his way!

Of the many things I have learned after 19 was not a great idea to get light carpets & have a kid. My daughter was really very neat & art projects were done in my work area, but over the years they faded terribly (I didn't think we even get that much sun!)and despite yearly shampooing they just don't come out perfectly. It has also been time for true confessions as my daughter fessed up and told me the stain by my computer chair that I never could figure out, came from an ice cream bar she ate one of the first times we left her alone. Her carpet also has a random pattern of spots from when she had a hamster & let him roll around in a ball in her room & pee where ever he wanted. Then, there is the bluish spot in the living room where a fluid filled toy that you squeeze and it keeps rolling in on itself leaked. She is 17 now, it's time.

Of course, I also heard..."Why are you finally getting new carpets when I am going off to college?" I told her it was a coincidence.

I did get a little time early in the week to finish piecing the quilt that I showed in my last post and to bead this pendant. I started with an old button from my stash and because it reminded me of a garden, I beaded it in colors for grass, water, and sun. Now, I'm off to oil painting class.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I think I'm in Trouble

with a capital "T"! Yesterday, while hubby & I were out shopping for new carpet and paint, we stopped to buy a confirmation card for my nephew. He reminds me to pick up a graduation card for our daughter, even though we have over a month to go. Hey, the man plans ahead. So I pick out one & read it--he says ok I like it...then I read one more just in case. Well, good thing we were alone in the aisle because yours truly starts bawling--and I mean tears coming down like Niagara Falls! It wasn't even a Hallmark! We bought the second card--nuff said!

I got my daughter's quilt top pieced. I know it looks long & thin for a quilt--it's about 40 x 80 but that just happens to be the dimensions of the top of a dorm room bed. I'm not really intending it as a bedspread but rather something to snuggle with!

Hope you are having a good Wednesday!

Blog Giveaway!

***I will be leaving this post at the top of my blog until May 9 so please scroll down to see new posts!***

As promised, here I am today with a giveaway! I created this french beaded butterfly plant stick over the weekend. Unfortunately, the weather has not been cooperative--not good photo-taking weather, but I will try to update on a better day.

As you can see, this butterfly came completely out of my imagination! All wing & antennae beads are czech glass, opaque black and metalllic orange, bright blue & chartreuse green. The body is made with vintage black small bugle beads that I estimate are over 65 years old. The plant stick can be placed in any plant or even on a window sill in the sun for some real sparkle!

So here is what to do if you would like a chance to win:

1)Leave a comment on this post between now & May 9.

2)For one additional entry, blog about my giveaway, & come back here & leave a separate comment with the link. You are welcome to copy the photo on the sidebar and please link back to this post.

The giveaway ends on May 9 at 5 p.m. I will select the winner by random number generator & post on Monday, May 10.

Happy Mother's Day

Just a quickie post today and then I am off to oil painting class!

I want to wish all the Mothers, Mothers-in-laws, and Mothers-to-be a very Happy Mother's Day. I never had the pleasure of meeting my mother-in-law, but I am sure I would have loved her. I lost my own Mother in 2003-way too early--she was my bff. Yet, the day is always a happy one for me as I spend it with the two most important people in my life.

Have a great weekend & a Happy Mother's Day!

Remember, there are only two days to enter my giveaway! I'll announce the winner on Monday!

How does your garden grow?

Today just flew by! My husband & I started walking outside (as opposed to exercising in the basement)in the mornings. We walk along the lake & do a big loop which is about three miles.

I spent the rest of the morning & part of the afternoon cutting out the pieces for a quilted throw I am making our daughter as a graduation gift. It will be a Union Jack Flag since she adores all things English--music (Arctic Monkeys), soccer (Liverpool) and the country, itself. As soon as it looks like anything I'll show some photos.

I also planted 21 pots of flower seeds as well as a stretch along the driveway. A variety of sunflowers, marigolds, cosmos, asters and some others that I can't think of right now.

Somehow, I still had time to make & list a couple of Daffodils in my Etsy shop!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Wild, Wonderful Weekend!

Last Thursday as you may remember, my husband & I went to New York City. After we took care of the purpose of the trip we had a really nice time wandering around. We stopped in St. Patrick's Cathedral which along with being the most important Catholic church in New York, also happens to be the spot where my husband proposed. After lighting some candles we decided to head over to Times Square to walk around. On the way, we stopped at a steak house that my Mom and his parents used to take us to (separately,of course)when we were kids. It was a wonderful nostalgic stop for us!

Friday, we took my Dad to his follow up doctor's appointment & I am so happy to say that the Pneumonia has just about resolved, he is off the oxygen & was just about skipping the halls afterwards!

Saturday, I headed back to New York City, this time with our daughter. Our first stop was the New York Public Library. Here is one of the famous lions that watch over the entrance. It was gorgeous inside! We only saw a few rooms, but they had amazing ceiling paintings, carved wood walls--it was like touring a museum!

On to Times Square & Broadway! Did lots of window shopping, a visit to the Hershey store and The M & M store where we came upon this fella:

On to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. If you have never been to a Hard Rock, they are filled with tons of musical memorabilia such as guitars, clothing, records, etc.

Last, but most importantly, we arrived at the Majestic Theatre to See:

The show was fabulous--our daughter's first real Broadway Show and she loved it!

Sorry this post was so long--thanks if you made it all the way through!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway here. You have until May 9--Mother's Day!
