Enough with the Pollen already!

Allergies are the absolute pits! Be glad if you don't have them...and if you do, I sympathize. This has got to be one of the worst Springs ever. Silly me, I thought I had finally "out grown" them! So I didn't bother using my preventative nose spray. Instead, I am sufferring for the second week with the stuffy, itchy, sneezy, drowsy, coughy, watery symptoms. I love Spring, I truly do, but right now I feel like I belong in a bubble, or at least a storybook. I even had to brave the snowstorm of pollen to make a run to the craft store for more black wire.

Last night, I was 3/4 finished with my challenge project when I ran out of wire. I checked my stash (because, yes, I do have a stash of Everything!)but all I had was navy or purple. So out I went this morning--had to get a different gauge which really doesn't show or matter anyway, because the local Michael's never seems to be very well stocked on whatever I went in to buy that day. Do I have an uncanny knack for working on hot crafts, or what?! Anyway, here is the result...

I named him Tuxedo Penguin and he is available in my etsy shop. He is a King Penguin and the orange bead & yellow heart are representative of the beautiful, colorful neck these penguins have. I used a neon orange on the head & beak so they really stand out. I love his chunky little feet, too!

Creative Challenge #52

Wow! 52 weeks worth of creative challenges from Jewelstreet! This week we are revisiting the first creative challenge to create something using black & white. Since I began participating around week #7, I missed these earlier challenges, so I am excited. I can really see the progression of my creativity from then until my last piece, the tiger which was the subject of my last blog.

I am thinking perhaps another animal art doll for this challenge. I've already done a zebra which has already sold. Off the top of my head, I can only think of two other animals that are predominantly black and white--but I'll leave you guessing... hopefully, I'll post my creation later on in the week!

Until next time, I leave you with a photo of my latest quilled treasure box which I just listed in my etsy shop. I'm still struggling with some photos, as you can see, LOL! Either the glass in the top or the polyurethane threw off the color and made all sorts of glare. This was the best I could do before I got too frustrated!

Have a Happy Memorial Day!

Introducing.....

Stripes! This week's creative challenge was to make something inspired by your high school experience. After tossing around several ideas, I came up with this beaded art doll. My high school mascot was the tiger.

If I can take a moment to brag, I am so very proud of this, my latest art doll. I created the head, arms, legs & paws out of polymer clay. I did not use any molds or instructions. I used a tiger statue for a little guidance, but mostly I just let loose & let my fingers go! I am really happy with the result.

I'm off now to put it in my etsy shop...remember, today is the last day to take advantage of my etsyversary sale...take 25% off anything in my shop plus receive a free gift. Any orders over $25.00 before shipping cost will ship for free. As an extra to my blog readers, I will include shipping in the 25% off. What do you believe?...

Only have time for a really quick post today, because I am determined to finish and list my creative challenge piece. If I am successful in finishing it, I will come back & show it off later! Until then, I leave you with this question that I came across on the internet while researching something...

What do you believe even though you cannot prove it?

I truly believe that there are no such things as ufos or aliens.

How about you? What do you believe?

Cartharsis

Here's a neat tag idea that I just read on Jenn's blog (she borrowed it from someone else)..."list 15 things you would like to tell 15 people without naming names. The responses may not make sense to the readers but the therapy is valuable. Give it a try. You don't have to do 15 do 1 or 2; feeling particularly pent up, do 100." So, here goes....

1)Your maturity really amazes me sometimes and makes me so proud.

2)Sometimes I pull away because I can't stand the thought of losing you.

3)We could be much better friends if you could just learn to lighten up.

4)I can't believe you said that to me, even if you were drunk on your wedding day.

5)The last laugh is on you--I don't need you! And for the record, I never idolized you.

6)Boy, I wish I was as good an artist as you.

7)I wish you were still here.

8)Stop flaunting your jewelry & acting like you don't have money. Don't you see how ridiculous that makes you look?

9)I'm wondering how you are, but know I can never contact you.

10)You were really an idiot in high school.

11)You were really an idiot in high school. (No, this is not a repeat...I am talking to 2 different idiots)

12)Why did you say something you never meant?

Well, that felt really good!

Have a wonderful Monday!

Hearts and Flowers

I hate when I don't have time in the morning to blog. It has become as much a part of my morning routine as exercising. When I lack the time...I feel a bit off, as if I did things in the wrong order. But, here I am anyway, nearly 2 p.m. My husband & I had our physicals today & I am happy to say we both had excellent reports. We made a few shopping stops and then had a sort of celebratory lunch at our favorite local Greek Restaurant. Gyros! Yum!

This will be a rather short blog since as I said, I feel off & can't think of what to say. I'll introduce my latest treasure box. I'm still working with the new camera, so sorry for the glare. I decided to get into quilling again which I really enjoy. In case you are not familiar, quilling is the art of taking skinny strips of paper & rolling them into coils. The coils are then shaped into teardrops, half circles, well, you get the idea. So I call this box heart and flowers. I'll be putting it in my etsy shop shortly.

Just a little reminder of my etsyversary sale: Until May 25--take 25% off anything in my shop plus receive a free gift. Any orders over $25.00 before shipping cost will ship for free. As an extra to my blog readers, I will include shipping in the 25% off. Please put "Etsyversary Blog" in notes to seller so you receive this extra discount.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In My Own Backyard

Good Morning!

Today, I wanted to share with you a little slice of my neighborhood! This is actually what is down at the end of the block. I wanted to practice using some of the other trillion settings on our new camera, so I strolled down to the lake. It was a bit windy, so unfortunately none of the dozen or so white swans or the occasional crane or two could be seen.

It's funny, and oh so true what they say...that we tend to forget about the beauty in our own backyard. We yearn to go to far away, exotic places, and take hundreds of photos hoping to hold on to those memories. Yes, vacations have their place; and I, for one, love to travel. This summer we have the biggest vacation planned that we have ever undertaken. It is still a ways off, so I will keep you guessing for awhile.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I plan to start taking walks again. It is so beautiful & refreshing to get out and enjoy nature.

Have a wonderful day!

Looking for notecards?

Today's shout out goes to Sandra from The Eclectic Studio. Above are just two examples of the note cards I purchased from her. I think they are gorgeous! The photography is excellent and the printing perfect. The colors are so bright and vivid! I bought these to support a fellow Etsy seller & to use as thank you cards when someone makes a purchase from my shop--it will be hard to part with them!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and a nice Mother's Day for those of you who are Mom's.

Mother's Day is my Etsyversary!

Friday, May 11, 2007

Just in time for Mother's Day, Jewelstreet's Creative Challenge #50 is to create something inspired by your Mother. Well, my Mom is no longer with us, but I have many, many happy memories of traveling with her while in my teens and early 20s. Nearly every year we went on vacations together--Europe, California, Cozumel, Italy, and the National Parks to name just a few. The above is my tribute to those times. I created the above treasure box to look like a well-worn suitcase--and in fact to feel like one! It has a very rough look and feel to it, except inside and where I decoupaged some great travel/train images. It will be in my Etsy shop later today.

The above image is to show off my latest beaded art doll! I made the zebra head, arms, legs, & hooves from polymer clay! It is much more intricate than my Happy Cat head, and I really like the way it turned out. I hope to do more of these, soon. It's already in my shop.

Well, Mother's Day is my Etsyversary! I can't believe it has been a year already! I have enjoyed myself and am especially grateful for all the friends I have made. Without them, this blog would not exist. Although I have said this before, I am so extremely grateful to have discovered the creative challenges--they have helped me to grow as an artist/crafter. Past challenges continue to inspire me...next week, look for another Ikebana arrangement, the inspiration coming from another culture. And so to celebrate I am having a sale, starting now...

Until May 25--take 25% off anything in my shop plus receive a free gift. Any orders over $25.00 before shipping cost will ship for free. As an extra to my blog readers, I will include shipping in the 25% off. Please put "Etsyversary Blog" in notes to seller so you receive this extra discount.

Bees, Butterfly Nets & Heros

Why is it that bees and especially flies come into my house? I mean, I can understand ants, but what does my house have to offer a bee? And why do they never want to leave? I've left windows open, doors open, even tried to show them the way out. You wanna see funny?!

The other day my 14 year old was screaming from the Dining Room, "There's a BIGGGGGG BEEEEEE!" This is the child that gets upset over a teeny tiny spider, so I casually walked downstairs expecting to see a yellow jacket, or maybe a bumble bee. Halfway into the Living Room I hear the loudest buzzing I have every heard in my life! It sounded like a swarm...but what it was, was the biggest bee I have ever seen in my life. The insect had to measure over 1" long--didn't exactly ask it to stand still while I got out a ruler! It was black & angry! I'm sure it was not a wasp--never heard one of them buzz. But this thing wanted to get out in the worst way-through a closed window. There was no way I was going to prance through the kitchen to the back door & hope it would follow me out!

I had to think quick...so I went into the garage and got my child's old butterfly net. I tiptoed over to the window & the darn thing is gone. Don't see it, can't hear it. So I start shaking the curtains--I found it...and now it is really, really mad. I finally trap it against the window with the net over it--do you think it knew I was trying to help it? Do you think it went docilely into the net? Yeah, right! So finally we propped open the back door & I shouted, "Out of the Waaaaay!" and I went for it. Scooped it up, ran through the kitchen before it knew what was going on and shook the net out the door! Success!

Boy that got the adrenaline flowing! But after all this, my daughter came up to me and gave me a big hug and said, "You're my Hero, Mom!" Enough said.

Have a Happy Day!

Hunka Hunka Burning Love!

Good Morning! Today I am showing off some Elvis artwork that I purchased, as if most of you could not guess, from the wonderful stilettoheights. With appologies to the artist for the less than perfect photos-Jenn ships these aceos in lucite protectors and I did not want to take them out to photograph them. Lest there be any doubt, they are perfect! Many of you may be familiar with stilettoheights wonderful fashion aceos, collages, blocks & jewelry. But I am here today to prove her versatility and state emphatically that she does wonderful custom orders! I seriously could not be more happy with my Elvis aceos and, no, you most definitely will NOT find them in my Etsy shop!

Hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I do! They sit front & center on my desk!
Have a great day!

Spring is in the air today!

It is a beautiful, sunny day in craftymooseland! The birds are singing, a gentle wind is blowing and otherwise it is quiet. I just came in from doing a little yard clean up. To me, raking is meditative. I like the sound of the rake and the idea of scraping the earth new again. We have two huge--I mean, they are ready for New York City's Rockerfeller Center--pine trees in front of our house. They keep the house nice and cool in summer, but the pine needles are a bit of a job to rake up. I meditate...alot! Actually, I just make piles with the rake & when my daughter gets home from school, she picks them up.

After about an hour of that I decided lunch and picture taking was next. I just finished and listed these tulips in my etsy shop. We bought a new camera, so hopefully, with practice, I can improve my photos. I am really proud of them--they look like they were just picked from the garden. Except we don't have any left in our garden. Several Autumns ago, I planted over 100 bulbs--tulips, daffodils & narcissis among others. By the following Spring we expected a blaze of color. What we got was half a dozen flowers and about 75 or so holes! Seems the squirrels dug them up for food or water or maybe they used them for squirrel basketball. Anyway, that's the last time I did that!

Have a great afternoon, and Don't forget to stop & smell the flowers!

The Game of War

So this post is probably not about what you thought. It is about the card game, War, and the Creative Challenge. This week we were to be inspired by our favorite card game. War is not my favorite, but is certainly a card game that I have played over and over again with my daughter. Sometimes my thought process takes me to one place and I realize that I can't leave there until I craft it! It goes like this...

You all know the card game, right? Two players put down a card from their stack and whoever has the highest in rank gets the cards. This goes on and on for what seems like an eternity. First one player's stack gets higher, and you think it is almost over, and then the other player makes a comeback. On and on, round after round.

It occured to me how much this is a metaphor for life--we go round and round and on and on forever it seems, only sometimes to get nowhere. So this little aceo is my solution to the problem. It reads, "If you're going around in circles, maybe it's because you're cutting too many corners." Give it some thought.

It will be in my Etsy shop later today.
