I'm going to date myself!

While thinking about Jewelstreet's creative challenge this week, I got a song stuck in my head. I don't even know the whole song-just one line! The challenge was to use the color lime! So I thought lime, lime--he put the lime in the coconut--and it was all downhill from there! I think that inspiration guy was shouting at me...something about limes and coconuts...anyway, here's what I came up with!

I used acrylic paint to do the background. The palm tree is hand cut using different kinds of paper. The coconuts are cut from a speciality paper that resembles burlap. It will be in my Etsy shop later today!

Now maybe I can get that song out of my head!

Quick update of the flower girl headpieces...I've made great progress! I finished the baby's breath and all the leaves. The roses & baby's breath are all taped. I've begun taping 5 leaves into a sprig of leaves. Then I will be ready to attached them to the wire (which I haven't bought yet!) and voila, I will be finished!

Spring has Sprung!

Or at least it feels that way! It's is a nudge away from 50 degrees here and I am feeling energetic.

I all but had to ban myself from the computer the last few days, because I was getting nothing constructive done. It seems I like this blogging (more than I thought I would!) and lurking in the Etsy forums which I do sometimes until I am mesmerized. Yeah, I cleaned the house and went to a routine doctor's appt, but I don't consider those constructive. So, I "cut myself off" for a few days and only allowed myself to comment in the creative challenge forum run by Jewelstreet.

I worked a lot on the floral headpieces that I mentioned in my last post. All 23 roses are completed and assembled with their sepals. I will finish the 23 sprigs of baby's breath today. Next will come the leaves and assembly. I'll keep you all up to date!

I finished my challenge piece. A little bit of a departure for me-a little chunkier and a lot more colorful than some of my last beaded art dolls. It will be in my Etsy shop in a little bit. The challenges have been very inspirational to me and I will be forever grateful to Jewelstreet for starting them! Many of my challenge pieces have sold--in fact, yesterday, my "Bad hair day" beaded art doll from challenge #41 sold!

Until next time...Happy Spring!

I figured it out!

Yes! I figured out why I feel less inspired lately...That which I attributed to "creative block" is actually a result of a sort of "over" creating. I felt like I didn't have an original thought in my head, or if I did, it just wouldn't come out.
Well, I have figured out what we have been telling our daughter for years--the human mind cannot think of two different things at once!

Since the beginning of March, I have been working on my first big commission--to design & create three headpieces for the flower girls in my client's wedding. She saw a french beaded ring of roses that I made & asked if I could adapt it to be headpieces. After much discussion back & forth, I presented my proposal, and she accepted! Well, the beads were ordered, and, of course, I couldn't wait to dig right in! At this point, all the roses are assembled. I have leaf sprays & baby's breath left to make & then put it all together! I attached a photo of my progress so far.

The point I am making is that while this huge project is going on, it has been hard to point myself in any other direction creatively. Does that make me less of an artist? Probably not...I think it just makes me a little more obsessed! I can't think of anything else until these are done!

The other photo is a beaded art doll, called "I love cats!". I have just listed it in my Etsy shop. It is a companion piece to a similar one I did--I love dogs!

This week Jewelstreet's challenge is in honor of Spring--to make something inspired by your favorite flower. I plan not to miss this one!

Always learning!

Well, first I want to say a big thank you to Jewelstreet, Stilettoheights, and Gilfling for their comments and support. They all have great shops on Etsy that you can visit by clicking on their names.

See what I mean about learning? Yesterday, I learned how to turn something into a link! I also learned how to post comments to other blogs. Today, hopefully, I figured out how to add photos to my posts!

I have been in kind of a creative slump for the past few days, but I did manage to create this cute little golf ACEO, mainly so I could try to upload the photo! It will be in my Etsy shop later today.

Welcome to Craftymoose Crafts!

Hi and welcome to my little slice of the woods! It is probably going to take me some time to get the hang of this blogger thing, so bear with me!

I'm the Moose and I am the brains of this operation. I have been crafting for longer than I will admit (they don't call me Crafty for nothing!)and am completely self-taught. At one time or another, I have created in these mediums-needlecraft, knitting, crochet, painting, bear-making, polymer clay, jewelry-making, and french flower beading. I am currently in a beading frenzy--flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, and my newest creations-beaded art dolls.

Stop by my Etsy shop http://craftymoose.etsy.com to see a sample of my work!
